In the reign of the King Munjong (Joseon Dynasty), Wanpo-hyeon and Ungsin-hyeon was incorporated into Ungcheon-hyeon, renamed to Uncheon-gun after Gapo Reformation, and incorporated into Changwon-bu in 1908.
It was in 1912 that the name of "Jinhae" was first introduced in this region as "Jinhae-myeon", which was raised to Jinhae-eup, Changwon-gun in 1931, and to Jinhae-si on September 1, 1955. Lastly, Ungcheon was incorporated into Jinhae-si in 1973 and Ungdong in 1983.
