History (Origin)

Jinhae Post Office is a one-storied wooden building (452㎡) erected on a triangular area (2,086㎡) at the center of Y junction. Since being completed in October 25, 1912, this building has been used as Jinhae Post Office. Its entrance faces Jungwon Square corresponding to the vertex of a triangular area, that is, on the crossing of two roads. So it has a narrow entrance but turns out to be more spacious as you enter the building inside. This wooden building's roof and parapets are covered with copper plate and it has a semicircled skylight window that receives sufficient sunshine. At the end of the second World War, Japanese army commandeered all the copper plate on roof and parapets because of lack of materials for weapons. So instead of cooper plate, it was replaced by zinc but restored again in 1984. Also outworn wooden floor was remodeled with cement mortar. It is a Russian, semi-modern style and two Tuscan order columns on the entrance front create a stately appearance.
